Cope
The Gros de Tour cope in laminated crimson-red silk is finely embroidered with golden yarns. On the two extreme edges of the stole are embroidered two examples of the coat of arms of the prelate Luigi Pellegrini, recognizable by the rampant lion on a small green field, on a blue background, which supports a stick and his neck is tied to the pilgrim's hat, surmounted by three stars. It is divided by a motto in Latin: «futuram inquirimus» (Denora - Tota 2012, page 123). The cope shows an embroidered stole that presents decorative floral and plant motifs. From the coat of arms rise up lilies from which flowering heart-shaped compositions, produced by racemes that close themselves in a bunch of ears of wheat. On the entire surface of the mantle, some series of large embroidered flowers are neatly arranged in a chessboard pattern. On the back, there is a decorated shield, with a long fringe in metallic thread, which reproduces the same decorative elements of the stolon. The most important types of embroidered stitches are full stitch, extended stitch, basket stitch, grass stitch, embroidery with cardboard padding. The yarns used are the smooth metallic, curly, lamina and tinsel yarn. The presence of the coat of arms of Msgr. Pellegrini tells us that the cope was probably commissioned between 1879 and 1898, years in which the Prelate ruled the Altamuran Church.
